11 Male Idol-Turned-Actors Who Got the Most Limelight

We all agree that being an idol is not a piece of cake– all aspiring idols in the industry work extremely hard to appeal to the public.

Being a singer is a full-time job and so much more than just being able to sing. Unlike western artists, KPop Idols have to be able to dance difficult choreos while singing, prepare special talents to show in public, as well as behaving a certain way.

Several idols even turn to acting at one point during their career. In order to shine some light on the extremely hard-working idols who manage being in a group and acting at the same time, here are eleven idols-turned-actors who hit it big in the Korean drama and movie industry.
  1. Hoya

Hoya is an ex-member in the Woollim Entertainment which created the Kpop group INFINITE. While he left INFINITE recently, he still pursues music and acting. He made his acting debut in the Reply series with his first role being Kang Jun-Hee in ‘Reply 1997’. Being able to land a role in this already established and well known series definitely showed his potential as an actor for future projects. His other dramas include My Lovely Girl, Mask, Super Family 2017, Radiant Office, and the movie Hiya.

  1. Lee Hong-Ki

Hong-Ki is the main vocal of F.T. ISLAND, a Kpop group that’s been around for 10 years now. He was part of the star-struck cast of ‘You’re Beautiful’, acting alongside Park Shin Hye and Jang Keun Suk. But instead of being intimidated by that, he proved that he can act just as well as they can! He then continued to star in many dramas such as Muscle Girl, Bride of the Century, and Modern Family. His movies include Rockin’ on Heavens Door, and How to Steal a Dog.

  1. Yook Sung-Jae

Sung-Jae is a member of BTOB, a 7-member group established in 2012 by Cube. Just like Hoya, he made his acting debut in the popular Reply series, and starred in ‘Reply 1994’ as Sung Joon in the year 2013. Since then, he continued to be part of many big drama productions, including “Who Are You: School 2015”, The Village: Achiaras Secret, and Goblin. While being on the hit drama Goblin, he impressed the viewers with his skills throughout the series and proved that he earned the spot right and fair.

  1. D.O

Do Kyung-Soo is part of the highly successful group EXO under S.M Entertainment which debuted in 2012. While the only drama that he starred in as a fixed cast member was ‘It’s OK, That’s Love’, he made himself a name with acting in numerous movies. He showed many diverse characters while being on screen and portrayed every single one of them with great accuracy. His movies include his first acting role, ‘Cart’ in 2014, and many more, such as Unforgettable, My Annoying Brother, Along with The Gods: The Two Worlds, Room No.7, and Swing Kids which is set to air in 2018.

  1. Ok Taec-Yeon

Taec-Yeon is part of 2PM, a boy group that debuted in 2008 under JYP. While nearly every 2PM member has acted until now, Taec-Yeon is the one with the most experience. He continued his acting career with Dream High, 99 days with the Superstar, Who Are You, Wonderul Days, Assembly, Bring it on, Ghost, and Save Me. Many of these dramas have a dark-themed plot which some see harder to act in. Nevertheless, Taecyeon was able to illustrate every character without a problem. His movies are ‘Marriage Blue’ and the most recent one, ‘House of the Disappeared’.

  1. Choi Si-Won

Si-Won is part of SUPER JUNIOR, a male group formed by performer Lee Soo-Man under S.M Entertainment. These include 18, 29, Spring Waltz, Hyangdan, Oh! My Lady, Athena: Goddess of War, Glamorous Challenge, Poseidon, The Lord of Dramas, The Man in the Mask, She was Pretty, and Revolutionary Love. Continuing his acting career besides being an idol group member and even promoting overseas throughout so many years definitely shows his passion for the job.

  1. Lee Joon

Lee Joon is a former member of one of the older Kpop groups in the industry. The members of MBLAQ, who debuted in 2009 under Rains company J.Tune Camp, split ways in 2014 when Lee Joon and Thunder left the group. Lee Joon started acting in 2009 in the movie ‘Ninja Assasin’. He continued to star in many movies including Rough Play, The Piper, Seoul Station and Luck-Key. He was also able to win two Excellent Actor awards throughout the years.

  1. Park Hyung-Sik

Park Hyung-Sik is another member of the boy group ZE:A. While he didn’t have a role in a movie so far, he has a long list of dramas that make up for it. He started his acting career in 2012 with ‘Foolish Mom’, followed by Drama Special Series: Sirius, Nine: 9 Times Time Travel, What Happens to My Family?, Persevere, Goo Hae-Ra, High Society, Hwarang, Strong Woman Do Bong-Soon, and Suits, which is the Korean adaption of the American series with the same name and that will air next year. 1. Seo In-Guk

Seo In-Guk made it into the K-pop industry by winning the talent show Superstar K in 2009. He continued his music career as a solo artist and made his acting debut in 2012 in ‘Love Rain’.
